- Wound Care at the Frontline: Tactical
Combat Casualty Care (TC-3)
Soldiers continue to die on today’s battlefield just
as they did during the Civil War. The standards of care
applied to the battlefield have always been based on civilian
care principles. These principles, while appropriate for
the civilian community, often do not apply to care on the
battlefield. Combat Medic Advanced Skills Training (CMAST)
is a course that has been designed and approved by the American
College of Surgeons and National Association of EMTs and
offered to soldier medics and nurses in the armed forces
in an effort to reduce morbidity and mortality directly
related to wounding in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
- Legal Implications of Wound Care
An hour of content delivered to reinforce the need to appropriately
utilize clinical guidelines and research published in an
effort to reduce the incidence of chronic wounds that lead
to amputation. Tips for effective communication as well
as accurate documentation are offered specifically to reduce
the incidence of litigation as it reflects to the not-so-uncommon
negative outcomes of a chronic wound.
